CROCS + Oliver Patch Project
Empowering kids with pediatric cancer every step of the way
A little background:
The Oliver Patch Project (OPP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation whose mission is to create a free, fun, engaging platform where children with childhood cancers and their families can connect through a series of unique patches created by artists and designers just for them. Click here to read more about our story and how OPP came to be.
We empower kids to find their inner warriors, as they endure life changing milestone events, by providing a bit of sunshine throughout their entire cancer journey from discovery through completion.
Oliver Patch Project is open to any child in the United States in active treatment for cancer. Whether receiving a patch in the hospital, hearing about us on social media or good ole word of mouth, warriors are provided a secret “patch code” that takes them to their own portal. Within the Warrior Login Portal they create their account and the fun begins! Each child chooses either a jacket or tote and twenty (20) of their favorite patches. We embroider each child’s name, sew on the patches and create a unique, one-of-a-king custom garment the they can now wear to all future treatments and hospital visits. A box of thirteen (13) Milestone patches to sent to each parent/guardian so that they can support and empower their warriors along their cancer journey.
From this moment each OPP Warrior is automatically enrolled in our Patches of Positivity Program and will now receive a card and patch each month for the duration of their treatment.
We believe in the power of positivity. By providing a platform where kids can make their own choices, express their individuality while feeling a part of a community our program promotes healing and love to the families and kids that need it most.
Crocs and OPP… working together!
Why Crocs?
As photos of Warrior rocking their OPP gear started popping up on social media posts we obviously were excited! Word was getting out and getting out fast!!! However when talking to our nursing staff it was brought to our attention that there we many parents that did not have personal computer, smart device or even access to internet at home... needless to say we were shocked! Cancer doesn’t discriminate against race, color, religion or age and we wanted to make sure that every child/family in treatment had an opportunity to be included
Being that our garments are custom made for each child the process takes from three to four weeks and for these sick kids… that’s a long time. To walk on the oncology floor, meet these families, sign them up and then tell them your jacket will be ready in a month could be a bit disappointing to say the least. So we started to think how could be find a way to make these kids smile NOW! What could we do to make them feel part of a team, unique, important and empowered. Something that supported our jacket and tote program unified kids, nurses and doctors.
Where?
We have closely worked with our home hospital Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami and they are excited to support our pilot program to take place this September for Pediatric Cancer Awareness month.
The Kids:
Every child that we saw in the hospital was wearing CROCS! These kids all found a way to accessorize express themselves through their CROCS and charms. Oliver would slip in and out of his CROCS every time we had to use the restroom or take a short walk down the hall. As a parent watching my son “duck walk” down the hall with his IV cart made us laugh, and for a moment life began to feel a bit more normal.
Nurses & Doctors:
Many crocs were on the feet of Olivers care staff. We remember was one moment in particular when the nurse commented on Olivers crocs stating they were twins… this made Oliver feel so cool!
We realized that essentially the CROC charms in the specific situation serves the same purpose as our patch do. Both of these things allow kids the opportunity to not only have fun but feel normal. Understanding the significance of our milestone patches to both our kids and their parent we decided to make each of our milestones in charms as well.

Oliver and Peter hard at work!
It’s all about family…
Now, a little background – the Oliver Patch Project is the nonprofit organization our family started to support children with pediatric cancer.
The inception of our nonprofit came from us (Oliver’s parents) asking our family and friends to send patches to Oliver during his treatment as a way to send and receive love through the mail. (Who doesn’t like getting something fun in the mail!)
After receiving over 2,000 patches (in a month), Oliver said, “Guys, we should do this for other kids!” It was his inspiration, that helped us begin to conceptualize the project as it would look for others.
The www.oliverpatchproject.org website contains 100% original content to make kids smile and help them learn about what is happening to their bodies. When a child is given a “welcome patch” by a hospital partner, they join the program, selecting a jean jacket or tote bag, and 20 of their favorite starter patches through the online portal, which are then sewn onto their garment and sent to them at home. This enrolls them in the program for 12 months, or the duration of their treatment, whichever is longer. The goal is to give them a suit of “armor” they can wear to doctor’s visits and treatment appointments, as well as sending them a smile every month through the mail (in the form of a patch), allowing them to just feel like kids. The program is completely free for our Warriors and is supported 100% by public donations. We became a 501c3 nonprofit corporation in March of 2021, have 30 children enrolled in the program, and are growing daily! We have active relationships with 3 hospital partners in Miami and 1 in Phoenix and have plans to grow relationships with Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Children's National Hospital in DC, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. We are continuing to build relationships and add children as funding becomes available.

Exciting technology & Instagrammable moments
Each side of the Oliver Patch Project Mobile will be outfitted with our custom graphics, and set up for an interactive experience, allowing kids and their families to interact with the OPP characters in real life (almost).
Key Sponsorship opportunities for corporations: Sponsors will be identified on the rear of the vehicle with customized bumper stickers.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to do something amazing for our son. Although cancer has completely changed our lives, we have taken the experiences we have had and the love we have received and used them to power something good. Oliver has always been a loving and caring individual and this project will allow him to continue to grow that side of himself giving back to other children who have been impacted by cancer.
With gratitude,
Oliver, Peter, Brian & Trisha
